Melatovil is Yamamoto® Research's supplement based on Melatonin, a hormone naturally present in the body that serves to regulate sleep rhythms.

Melatonin, one of the most popular and widely used natural supplements, is also known as the 'sleep hormone'. It is in fact a water-soluble hormone that regulates the sleep-wake cycle: we all synthesise it every day from serotonin, mainly when it gets dark (in the dark).

Its production is influenced by several factors, the main ones being light, age, diet and the presence of other hormones. Light inhibits the production of melatonin, which is in fact only stimulated during the night: when the light stimulus reaches the retina, a signal is transmitted to the epiphysis to block its secretion. The continuous presence of light screens before bedtime therefore 'blocks' melatonin production, making it more difficult to fall asleep (which is why mobile phones and tablets should not be used shortly before bedtime).

Age also plays a role, as melatonin production is gradually reduced with age, due to calcification of the epiphysis. Too much caffeine and too much stress can also limit its synthesis.

It is therefore easy to understand the usefulness of taking Melatonin via specific food supplements such as Melatovil in various cases.

But how does Melatonin help us rest? Melatonin is used because it can reduce the time it takes to fall asleep (the beneficial effect is obtained by taking 1 mg of melatonin shortly before bedtime). It has been shown to be particularly effective in helping people fall asleep because its action restores the body's circadian rhythms, i.e. the biological rhythms that regulate sleep-wakefulness. Because of this characteristic, it is also widely used to alleviate the effects of jet lag (the beneficial effect is obtained by taking a minimum of 0.5 mg of melatonin just before bedtime on the first day of travel and for a few days after arrival at destination). Jet-lag, also called 'time zone syndrome', affects travellers who frequently change continent and time, and melatonin is able in this case to regularise our biological clock, which is disrupted by the time zone.

Several scientific studies claim that 1 or 2 mg of melatonin is sufficient to restore blood values of this hormone and allow us to fall asleep easily.

Sleep quality is one of the main factors determining human health and well-being: choose to take care of it with Melatovil to normalise your melatonin production and sleep-wake rhythms.
