Yamamoto® Nutrition RacePERFORMANCE is a food supplement for adults, for use during activities that require concentration and alertness, such as some sports activities. Caffeine helps to improve concentration and increase alertness. Ashwagandha has adaptogenic properties and helps to maintain physical and mental capacities in cases of weakness, tiredness, and loss of concentration.

From the research and development of Yamamoto® Nutrition, which seeks to maximise the athlete's performance with every possible instrument that science can offer, comes
Performance, a high quality supplement formulated to support the athlete in the most intense and prolonged workouts. This product comes from the combination of "historical" phytotherapeutic elements handed down from traditional Oriental medicines with new generation nutraceutical ingredients; these act on different factors to push performance to a new level of maximum yield when you need a step "later on", starting from maximisation of the use of oxygen and promoting increased resistance, greater contrast to the onset of fatigue without any drop in performance, and a more efficient mitochondrial energy functioning, underpinned by increased tone and mental focus.

One of the different elements declared "of real effectiveness" for the athlete – in both anaerobic and aerobic sports – is beta-alanine. The attention given to beta-alanine stems from the results of recent studies in the literature that have shown a positive effect on the performance of athletes. Beta-alanine is taken through certain foods and, in particular, from chicken and turkey meat for example, and the effect of this amino acid on performance is linked to an increase in the concentration of carnosine in skeletal muscle, following its assimilation. Carnosine is a dipeptide (made up of the amino acids beta-alanine and histidine) present for 99% in skeletal muscle where its concentration increases during physical exercise. Studies have shown that direct absorption of carnosine in the muscle is very limited; on the contrary, the absorption of ß-alanine is much more efficient. Over time, assimilation of this amino acid has been shown to be very important for the muscular synthesis of carnosine; this is because the concentration of beta-alanine in the muscle is relatively low, while that of histidine (the other amino acid that is part of the chemical structure of carnosine) is higher. For this reason, beta-alanine is considered the "limiting" amino acid for the synthesis of carnosine. This is why the valuable ergogenic effect of beta-alanine on performance is related to the physiological role of carnosine.

Carnosine is mainly present in the fibres most linked to "strength", type II "white fibres"; this explains why athletes who perform intense and short-term activities like anaerobic sports, such as sprinters, body builders or powerlifters, for example, show much greater concentrations of carnosine than endurance athletes. But it is important not to relegate the properties of beta-alanine to only the side of anaerobic or "power" sports. In muscle fibres, carnosine has its positive effect thanks to intracellular "buffer" capacity (thus maintaining the acid-base balance), which is especially important when performing high-intensity exercises because it reduces exercise-induced acidosis, allowing better performance also in the most prolonged intensive effort; this is why the fame of beta-alanine is related to its ability to reduce the sense of fatigue, also improving the aerobic capacity of athletes.  Beta-alanine has its peak of blood concentration 30 to 40 minutes after intake and returns to baseline after approximately 3 hours.
Cordyceps, like all mushrooms, has immunostimulant and anti-oxydating properties, but the peculiar characteristic of this fungus is that of stimulating the cell's energy activity, improving oxygenation, increasing the intracellular energy rate (ATP) and the use of oxygen, decisively stimulating strength and likewise aerobic capacity, promoting a healthy and physiological lung function. Cordyceps is effective in eliminating residual muscle pain faster and is able to improve physiological adaptations to training and performance and reduce recovery time, particularly in very intense and endurance activities, but it also reduces the anaerobic metabolism by ensuring an extra 30% use of oxygen. Scientific studies on the fungus and on cordiopine, the bioactive molecule it contains, show that it is rich in anti-inflammatory substances, which allow the joints, tendons and muscles to reduce inflammation and speed up recovery from traumas of inflamed or bruised tissues.

Withania somnifera – also called "Ashwagandha" or "Indian ginseng" – is a well known plant, long used in Ayurvedic medicine for the most varied pathologies. Thanks to the content of specific active ingredients (witanolides, saponins and alkaloids), it is one of the most powerful adaptogenic herbs and has been used for thousands of years in Ayurvedic medicine for its calming, anxiolytic, anti-stress and tonic-energetic properties; it is useful in cases of anxiety , fatigue, mental confusion, stress-related insomnia (but without creating in turn sleepiness!), thus ensuring better focus and concentration, qualities that lately are increasingly being exploited by the sportsman/woman, especially in the most intensive training stages and in the states of over-exertion. Recently, it has also been the subject of a clinical study of great interest, more specifically for athletes, which examined its effect in adult males engaged in resistance training and was published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition (http://www.jissn.com/content/12/1/43); it was shown that, compared with individuals who received the placebo, the group that received Ashwagandha supplementation had a greater increase in muscle strength in bench exercise and leg extension, and a greater increase (even more significant) in the size of the muscles of the arms and chest. In addition, those who received Ashwagandha also had a greater reduction in muscle damage, increasing the body's ability to adapt to muscle training, thus promoting better recovery as well as maintaining more favourable endocrine and hormonal parameters.

In conjunction with two powerful phytotherapy elements handed down from Oriental medicines, RacePerformance presents the innovation of WATTS'UP®, a flavonoid derived from sweet orange, the clinical efficacy of which is due to its triple action in favour of performance in all types of sports activities, thanks to its ability to increase the efficiency of direct action on the activity of the mitochondria, our "cellular power plant", generating more ATPs at constant levels of oxygen, so that more energy resistance will be provided in the long term but also more anaerobic power in the short term. All these qualities of this interesting bioflavonoid extracted from sweet orange can draw on clinical studies in the prestigious scientific journal (Maastricht, The Netherlands, January 5th, 2018 Journal of Sports Science and Medicine) for direct improvement of mitochondrial activity.

A stimulating element of this new pre-workout supplement is caffeine, "a must" with proven efficacy for this kind of product; it is the most widespread and most consumed psychoactive substance in the world, which interacts with specific biological receptors that regulate the functions of the endocrine cardiovascular system, as well as the nervous system, increasing energy levels. Taken before training, reaction times become more efficient, also increasing the perception of the pain threshold and allowing greater concentration and focus during performance.  In addition to its well-known stimulating effect, we recall the "metabolic" effect insofar as fatty acids are mobilised when we consume caffeine; this saves precious muscle glycogen, thus allowing the athlete to train for longer.

RacePerformance is a pre-workout supplement that is not limited only to its ergogenic-stimulating effect, but is a combination that exploits the synergy of key adaptogenic elements of traditional Oriental medicines, with the latest innovations of real effectiveness that modern science can offer us to support the athlete in his/her most intense and prolonged workouts, encouraging performance, constant results and more efficient recovery.
