Sulphur is found in considerable concentrations in joints, where it plays a crucial role in maintaining the stability and integrity of connective tissue, as well as participating in the production of chondroitin sulphate, glucosamines and hyaluronic acid.
Methylsulphonylmethane (commonly known as MSM) is an organic sulphur-containing compound and therefore a stable, rich and natural source of organic sulphur. This molecule tends to diminish considerably with age, and its supplementation is often useful and toxic-free, and is recommended as a preventive or supportive form in the case of osteoarticular problems.

The nutraceutical properties of MSM therefore derive from its highly assimilable and bioavailable sulphur content. Sulphur is an essential component of living cells. It is the third most important mineral in the body and is found in muscle proteins, coenzymes, hormones, lipids, vitamins and in certain polysaccharides. It is a biologically active compound that is part of the composition of several amino acids and is a key element in the constitution of articular cartilage of connective tissues (such as the dermis of the skin).

Disulphidic (S-S) bonds are particularly important in protein structures, because they give protides rigidity and stability; sulphur amino acids are also indispensable for hair growth.
MSM is attributed with anti-inflammatory, chondroprotective (reduction of joint pain and inflammation, while increasing the synthesis of new cartilage), and wound-healing properties, as well as being recognised as increasing skin and hair trophism. Furthermore, multiple studies show the effectiveness of MSM on treating osteoarthritis pain, confirming a clear improvement in symptoms.

Commonly used on the skin since ancient times, we now find it in the world of food supplements where it has found its own interesting field of use. After ingestion, it provides elemental sulphur to the amino acids methionine and cysteine and is incorporated into keratin, the structure of hair and nails. In addition, MSM is required for the production of collagen, the main component of connective tissue.

The MSM supplement chosen by Yamamoto Research uses the patented OptiMSM®, a purified and highly bioactive form of MSM, completely free of heavy metal residues, impurities and contaminants, which is non-toxic and hypoallergenic thanks to the four-step distillation process, achieved only by heat and without the use of aggressive solvents.
OptiMSM® is certified kosher, halal, vegan and is guaranteed gluten-free and GMO-free, as well as being listed as a 'GRAS' (Generally Recognised As Safe) substance by the FDA (Food And Drug Administration), meeting all the strictest pharmaceutical microbiological standards.
