The use of meal replacements today is often linked to diets for weight loss or purely associated with time constraints and practicality, or in the past the meal replacement 'MRP' was used to implement calories for athletes who sought in a more convenient way to increase their micronutrient intake by means of liquid mixtures to be drunk without (relatively) further burdening the digestive system. As protein sources we refer to
ISOLAC® as an excellent whey protein isolate, rich in essential amino acids essential for muscle growth, with the presence of bioactive fractions such as immunoglobulins and lactoferrin, very low lactose and fat content.
CARBELAC® whey protein concentrate with a high component of valuable micro-nutrients very important for muscle growth and recovery.
As whey-derived protein sources have a rather rapid capacity for digestion, absorption and release into the blood stream, a portion of milk casein is included to maintain a prolonged amino acid release between meals.
One of the characteristics of this new meal replacement concept lies in the carbohydrate sources it contains. Meal Replacements of the 'old generation' were characterised by the high concentration of carbohydrates with a prevalence of maltodextrins, which, although complex carbohydrates, have a high glycaemic index, which, especially if taken in certain quantities, are not exempt from glycaemic dips, digestive difficulties and gastrointestinal problems, not to mention the presence of simple carbohydrates to complicate matters further, especially on the tendency to accumulate water retention and fat.
MANGUSTA contains two types of new-generation carbohydrates, in the form of MOODCARB® and PALATINOSE® to ensure a constant glycaemic supply over time, without excessive insulin peaks, with a pleasant palatability, which is satiating and easy to digest.
ModCarb® is a blend formulated from six organic, gluten-free cereals: oats, amaranth, buckwheat, chia, millet and quinoa, considered a unique product compared to all other cereals, a true 'superfood' in that it undergoes a unique mechanical (non-enzymatic) process that literally shatters the cell wall and releases the highly soluble matrix of nutrients, creating a free-flowing hydrocolloid-like material that also enhances the flavour and texture profile of a finished product.
PALATINOSE® or 'isomaltulose'*, a disaccharide consisting of glucose and fructose, derived from sugar beet. This type of carbohydrate has a very pleasant taste and can be used in food to replace table sugar. Isomaltulose has characterising properties, such as having a low glycaemic index of 32 due to the very strong chemical bond between the glucose and fructose molecules that characterises the disaccharide, which is broken down with difficulty and slowness. It is therefore an ideal carbohydrate to be used in a meal replacement, as it is digested very slowly and the resulting glucose is released into the blood stream in small amounts without causing glycaemic and insulin spikes, also making it an optimal ingredient for those suffering from insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and diabetes.
