Yamamoto® Nutrition Insulomin-R is a dietary supplement developed to support carbohydrate metabolism, improve insulin sensitivity and maintain stable blood glucose levels. Consisting entirely of plant extracts (berberis, bitter melon, gymnema, cinnamon) with the addition of chromium and R-alpha-lipoic acid, Insulomin-R is an innovative, complete and effective GDA (Glucose Disposal Agent) that helps the body to absorb carbohydrates more efficiently and direct them towards muscle and liver glycogen formation.

It is well known that diets characterised by a prolonged excess of carbohydrates can facilitate decreased insulin sensitivity, resulting in systemic inflammation and a tendency to accumulate body fat. Consistently high levels of insulin (hyperinsulinaemia) can cause changes in the body's ability to utilise carbohydrates and also in their metabolism by muscle cells, resulting in excess unused circulating glucose, which will be converted into triglycerides through a process known as 'de-novo lipogenesis'. The triglycerides produced will then be deposited in the adipose tissue, thereby fuelling an abnormal metabolic condition that is clearly detrimental to achieving both athletic and general health goals.

All athletes need to maintain correct nutrient partitioning, i.e. an efficient macronutrient distribution, therefore ensuring good insulin sensitivity through training, nutrition and supplementation is fundamental for improving the management of carbohydrates by muscle cells, favouring their utilisation for glycogen production and consequently optimising both performance and recovery. The role of GDAs is precisely to ensure that the insulin released by the pancreas following the ingestion of a carbohydrate-rich meal can direct carbohydrates towards muscle cells, thus making the muscle-building phase more effective.

Although using a GDA supplement does not do away with the need to first adjust the diet, which must be varied and balanced, Insulomin-R can help to support metabolic health by re-sensitising cells to the action of insulin, thereby effectively restoring proper carbohydrate absorption. This action is clearly useful not only for athletes and sportsmen, but also in the case of insulin resistance.

The elements that contribute to the strength of the action of Insulomin-R are Lipoic acid, berberis extract (Berberine), extract of bitter melon (Momordicin®), Gymnema Sylvestre extract, cinnamon and Chromium picolinate. This blend of synergistic active ingredients enhances the natural insulin action, thus favouring a greater flow of glucose to the muscle cells, which reduces the likelihood of this sugar being converted and stored in the adipose tissue.

Lipoic acid is a fat-soluble molecule that is abundantly present in the mitochondria, and its use is recommended for the treatment of hyperglycaemia as well as for women with polycystic ovary syndrome** (PCOS). It is proposed as a NON-pharmacological solution in cases of pre-diabetes in order to normalise blood glucose levels, and its effectiveness has been demonstrated in many scientific studies, which provide extensive proof of its benefits.

Berberine, obtained from berberis extract, is a potent alkaloid that is recommended for those suffering from insulin resistance and for glycaemic management. It exerts its action by activating AMPK (Adenosine Monophosphate Activated Protein Kinase), a key enzyme for cellular energy metabolism. The main effects of AMPK activation are the stimulation of hepatic fatty acid oxidation, ketogenesis, slowing down lipogenesis (fat formation) and the inhibition of cholesterol and triglyceride synthesis. This enzyme also stimulates glucose uptake by the muscles and modulates insulin secretion by the beta cells of the pancreas. Using Berberine therefore allows better utilisation of carbohydrates by muscle cells, thereby supporting glycogen synthesis and recovery.

Bitter melon (also known as Mormodica Charantia) seems to have a potent insulin-sensitising effect and is therefore useful for improving insulin resistance problems (resulting from a prolonged high sugar intake, mass periods or prolonged hyperglycaemia). There is scientific consensus that bitter melon is one of the most promising plants for the natural treatment of diabetes: it can stimulate insulin secretion (through complex mechanisms of action that include AMPK activation and the inhibition of PTP1B, which usually inactivates the insulin receptor), and increases the expression of the membrane glucose transporter GLUT-4.

The extract of the climbing plant Gymnema Sylvestre is also of interest for its contribution to weight control: its leaves are rich in polyphenols and triterpene glycosides (such as gurmarin and Gymnemic Acid A1), substances that act by binding to the taste receptors on the tongue (gurmarin), thus mitigating the perception of sweet taste and reducing the craving for sugary foods, and also to the glucose receptors in the intestinal tract (gymnemic acid A1), thus reducing the absorption of sugars. On average, glucose receptor blockade occurs one hour after taking gymnema and lasts for several hours and scientific literature even seems to suggest that it allows a simultaneous regeneration of endocrine cells in the pancreas. As a result, the body's cells will, on the one hand, absorb less glucose and, on the other hand, easily convert the ingested sugars into fuel for the body.

Cinnamon is well known not only as a spice but also for its ability to keep blood sugar low, due to its ability to inhibit several pancreatic enzymes that digest starch, malt and sucrose (such as alpha-amylase, maltase, and intestinal saccharase). In this way, the sugars and starches introduced with food are not digested, thereby slowing down the absorption of glucose into the blood.

Chromium helps to maintain normal blood glucose levels and regular macronutrient metabolism; its picolinate form is more readily absorbed than other forms, which helps to achieve the goal of Insulomin-R: to improve the transportation and use of the carbohydrates we eat, in both muscle building phases and weight loss.

Our Advice

Although the best way to take Insulomin-R depends largely on individual needs, we recommend taking the product just before main meals (one tablet at lunch and one at dinner), in order to promote effective blood glucose control and better management of the sugars introduced with food.

Frequently asked questions

**How long before a meal should I take Insulomin-R?

Insulomin-R should be taken about 15-30 minutes before a main meal, in order to promote effective blood glucose control and better management of dietary sugar intake.

Can I take Insulomin-R even if I have already started another blood glucose therapy or medication?

Before taking Insulomin-R or any other blood glucose supplement, it is always important to consult your doctor or specialist to assess compatibility with other ongoing therapies, especially if you are taking oral antidiabetics, insulin or other types of medication. It is important to consult your doctor before using it, because it can increase the risk of hypoglycaemia.

Can Insulomin-R be useful in cases of insulin resistance?**

Yes, Yamamoto Nutrition Insulomin-R can be useful for those with insulin resistance. In this situation, the body cannot utilise insulin properly, causing blood sugar levels to rise. Insulomin-R can help manage blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity, thanks to its natural formula and the synergistic action of its ingredients. However, it should be pointed out that Insulomin-R cannot replace the medical therapy prescribed by your doctor, rather it can be a valuable support for blood glucose management.

Can I use Insulomin-R as metabolic support when eating a particularly large or carbohydrate-rich meal?

Yes, Insulomin-R can be used as metabolic support when eating particularly large or carbohydrate-rich meals. It contains natural ingredients that can help regulate blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity, thus contributing to a better management of the carbohydrates introduced with food.
