From the ongoing research of the Yamamoto® Research R&D team comes Epadex, a dietary supplement developed to support the normal hepatic function and our depurative system, capable of helping the liver in its various disposal and detoxification activities. Epadex uses the synergy of several natural elements: artichoke extract, desmodium extract, milk thistle extract (silymarin) and curcuminoids from patented Curcuma Curcugreen™.

The liver is a gland that plays a key role in our metabolism and oversees many of the body's biochemical functions. Among its many activities, of particular importance is its ability to eliminate toxins and harmful substances, which are rendered more harmless and soluble in the liver and then excreted. Various scientific studies have shown that the modern age subjects us to continuous exposure to potentially toxic agents of various kinds, which is why it is always advisable to aid and support the body's physiological detoxification processes before toxin accumulation occurs.

Nutraceutics in this field provides us with various natural substances with real efficacy, so that the liver can continue to do its work efficiently and optimally. Among the most functional phytoextracts for hepatic health are undoubtedly milk thistle, artichoke, desmodium and turmeric, all ingredients chosen for the formulation of Epadex.

Let's take a detailed look at the functionality of each nutraceutical selected for Epadex.- Artichoke Extract - From a once very rare vegetable, today the artichoke is widely cultivated in regions with a temperate winter climate. Already known in the 16th century, it is one of the most suitable plants for supporting the body's liver, digestive and depurative functions.

  • Milk Thistle Extract (Silymarin) - Silymarin is the best-known natural substance for supporting the body's liver function and purification, and is also one of the most studied extracts in the scientific world, which has delved into its mechanisms of action. Contained in the fruits of milk thistle (Silybum marianum L.), silymarin is an isomeric compound of silybinin, isosilybinin, silicristin and silydianin, which can support liver health. It protects new liver cells by reducing inflammatory processes in the liver, counteracts hepatic steatosis and supports the regeneration process of liver tissue resulting from alcohol and toxic substance abuse. To enhance its efficacy, a version of silymarin using the Phytosome® form (complexed with lecithin) as a transport vehicle was chosen for Epadex, which ensures a marked improvement in bioavailability.

  • Desmodium extract - Obtained from the perennial, climbing African plant Desmodium adscendens, Desmodium extract entered Western common practice to promote liver function thanks to the interest of a French physician, Dr. P. Tubèry, who discovered its potential in 1965 in Cameroon and later imported it to France. This extract acts as a hepatoprotector, promoting regeneration of liver cells, increasing their resistance and exerting anti-inflammatory activity.

  • Curcuminoids from Curcuma Curcugreen™ - turmeric, a spice widely used in cooking, is a substance whose multifaceted value can boast numerous studies. Characterised by a very intense and distinctive aroma, Curcuma has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years and is associated with good, physiological liver function. One of the limitations of using turmeric as a supplement was related to its bioavailability, a problem circumvented by Curcugreen™ BCM-95®, a special patented 100% blend of turmeric extract with a dossier of over 68 clinical studies and 15 years of quality-safety monitoring. The number “95” characterising the Curcugreen™ BCM-95® patent relates to the 95% standardisation of the curcuminoid-essential oils complex, which allows unique absorption and synergy of action. This patent has, in fact, demonstrated an extraordinary bioavailability, 7 to 9 times higher than that of the most common turmeric extracts at 95% standardisation. The turmeric used is GMO-free, and does not contain any artificial excipients or dyes, is gluten-free and does not contain yeast, starches, dairy or soya.

Our Advice

Epadex can be taken at any time of the day, according to one's preferences and needs. However, some studies seem to suggest that the bioavailability of the active ingredients contained in Epadex may be better if they are taken at the same time as a meal. It is therefore recommended that the 2 daily tablets be taken at the same time as the main meals.

Frequently asked questions

Is it the same to use turmeric as a spice or as a supplement?

Turmeric is a very common spice used in cooking to add flavour and colour to dishes, but using turmeric as a spice does not provide the same quantities of the active ingredient, curcumin, that are obtained by taking titrated curcumin supplements such as Epadex. Curcumin is the active compound found in turmeric that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and health-protective properties in several scientific studies, and Epadex is formulated to provide a concentrated dose of curcumin.
