Yamamoto Nutrition's BCAA PRO 4:1:1 is a matrix composed of 100% pharmaceutical grade and Ajinomoto® Ajipure®-certified branched-chain amino acids, obtained by vegetable fermentation, with a 4:1:1 ratio. Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) are 3 amino acids that belong to the essential amino acids group, i.e. those that the human body in unable to synthesise in sufficient quantities to meet its needs, and which must therefore necessarily be taken in via the diet. It is important to remember that BCAAs are essential amino acids (EAAs), and that amino acids are the organic molecules our body uses to form proteins.

The formula is also enriched with vitamin B1, which promotes normal energy metabolism, and vitamin B6, which helps to reduce tiredness and fatigue, and promotes the maintenance of normal protein and glycogen metabolism.

The Ajipure® brand consists of a wide range of ultra-pure amino acids and related compounds supplied by Ajinomoto Co., Inc., a world leader with over 100 years of experience and a reputation for rigorous quality assurance. With its innovative fermentation technology, that has been refined over the years, Ajipure® has become a trusted pioneer in the healthcare field.

Ajinomoto® Ajipure® BCAA PRO 4:1:1 is characterised an l-leucine, l-isoleucine and l-valine ratio of 4:1:1, and therefore has a higher leucine content, as this amino acid is fundamental for protein synthesis. The main characteristics of these 3 amino acids are as follows:

  • Leucine: occurs naturally in milk, corn, chicken and eggs. It plays an important role at the muscular level, and is an alternative source of energy during intense sports activities.

  • Isoleucine: is found mainly in corn, potatoes, chicken, eggs, peanuts, bresaola and lamb. It is closely linked to glucose requirements (as a matter of fact, it is referred to as a glucogenic and ketogenic amino acid), prevents structural protein catabolism and promotes recovery after prolonged exertion.

  • Valine**: is found in high quantities in egg white powder, soy protein, spirulina algae and dairy products. It plays several important roles, particularly in tissue reconstruction.

BCAAs are among the food supplements that are most popular with athletes, bodybuilders and fitness enthusiasts in general. These amino acids are essential for muscle protein synthesis and the repair of muscle tissue damaged by exercise.

They account for approximately 35% of the essential amino acids in muscle protein and are particularly important for the maintenance and growth of lean muscle mass. In addition, BCAAs can help reduce muscle fatigue and improve performance during physical activity.

One of the main benefits of taking BCAA supplements is their ability to increase muscle protein synthesis, and leucine appears to be the most important amino acid for stimulating muscle protein synthesis by activating a metabolic pathway known as mTOR.

In addition to their branched side-chain structure, the other peculiarity of these amino acids lies in their metabolism. As a matter of fact they are the only amino acids that are not metabolised in the liver and pass directly into the muscle tissue, where they are metabolised by the enzyme BCCA amino-transferase, which is not present in the liver.
All three branched-chain amino acids are insulinogenic, but unlike the other amino acids that enable insulin stimulation, they are not glucogenic. This property has attracted the interest of the supplementation market due to the benefits of insulin peaks after exercise.

Quality First

The Ajipure® brand supplies pure products, leveraging the more than 100 years of experience of Ajinomoto Co., Inc.

Quality assurance forms the core of the Ajipure® brand.

The starting material of Ajinomoto® Ajipure® Bcaa PRO 4:1:1 is pharmaceutical grade AjiPure® amino acids, of the highest quality and purity on the market, manufactured by industry leader, Ajinomoto Co., Inc.
AjiPure® amino acids are fermented using only natural, plant-based Ferment-A-Pure carbohydrates, subjected to purification technologies that make the starting material completely contaminant-free, highly soluble, and 98-99% bioavailable.
As the world leader in this market, Ajinomoto Co., Inc. chooses Yamamoto Nutrition for the formulation of premium products, espousing the philosophy of striving for true excellence. Yamamoto guarantees the full authenticity of the 100% Ajipure®-certified starting material as the only real logo allowed to appear on the packaging.

What are branched-chain amino acid supplements for?

Branched-chain amino acids have three main functions: they are used for protein synthesis where, together with the other 17 alpha-amino acids, they are the “building blocks” that make up proteins, they are used for energy purposes and act as signalling molecules.

Directions and intake
Take 5 tablets once a day, with water or other beverage, before trainings or competitions or immediately after.
Our Advice

We recommend splitting the daily intake of branched-chain amino acids (5 tablets) between before and after your workout, namely 2 before and 3 after. This will both promote anabolic processes and counteract muscle catabolism processes, thereby supporting muscle growth while preserving the tissues subject to exertion. On rest days, the product can be taken at any time of the day.

Frequently asked questions

Should they be taken before or after a training session?

Taking BCAAs is a correct strategy both before and after a workout, as they are highly effective in both cases. They counteract the muscle catabolism that occurs after strenuous exercise and at the same time provide the muscle with plastic material. Our advice is therefore to divide intake between the pre- and post-workout periods.

I take branched-chain amino acids: is it right to add protein intake as well?

Most proteins of high biological value contain a full spectrum of essential amino acids, including all branched-chain amino acids. In situations such as low-calorie, high-protein diets, increased requirements or even sarcopenia, taking BCAAs can play a supporting role. Whether protein and amino acids should be taken together depends on the quality (biological value) of the protein and the total daily protein intake. If you are taking BCAAs but your protein requirements are not met, you can also take protein at the same time.

I have heard of other BCAA supplements with different ratios, why should I choose Yamamoto Nutrition's 4:1:1?

The 4:1:1 ratio of the three branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) present in BCAA 4:1:1, namely leucine, isoleucine and valine, has been specifically formulated to maximise protein synthesis and muscle repair after physical exertion. While some other BCAA supplements may have different ratios of these amino acids, the 4:1:1 ratio has been shown to be the most effective for increasing muscle protein synthesis and helping to reduce muscle breakdown.

So which ratio should I opt for: 2:1:1, 4:1:1 or 8:1:1?

The answer to this question is not as obvious as it may seem. Several different variables, and in many cases the reason for using the supplement, must be taken into consideration. Below you will find some advice to help you choose.

  • BCAA 2:1:1 - Their main purpose is to provide energy support during long and intense training sessions and facilitate muscle recovery. They are therefore suitable for use both pre- and post-workout.

  • BCAA 4:1:1 - Reducing fatigue, supporting increased energy demands and recovery are the main benefits of taking this type of BCAA. They are therefore best taken during or after a training session.

  • BCAA 8:1:1 - Do we need to maximise recovery after a workout? The high leucine content promotes this process while meeting the energy demands that arise at the end of a training session.
